Understanding the biological processes that contribute to dementia is essential for advancing diagnosis, prevention and treatment. This session focuses on cellular, molecular, biochemical and structural changes associated with Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders. Areas of interest include protein aggregation, synaptic dysfunction, neuronal loss, oxidative stress, vascular changes, metabolic disturbances and interactions between different pathological pathways.
The session welcomes laboratory, preclinical, translational and human studies examining disease initiation, progression and neuropathological features. Abstracts may include experimental models, tissue studies, molecular investigations, computational research, pathological observations and interdisciplinary analyses. Neuroscientists, molecular biologists, neuropathologists, pharmacologists, biochemists, geneticists, clinicians, biomedical researchers and students may present findings that improve understanding of dementia-related disease mechanisms.
