Inflammatory and immune processes are increasingly recognised as important contributors to ageing, neurodegeneration and cognitive impairment. This session explores interactions between the nervous and immune systems, including microglial activity, systemic inflammation, immune signalling, infection-related processes and inflammatory changes associated with dementia progression. It provides opportunities to discuss both harmful and protective immune responses within the ageing brain.
Submissions may include studies of neuroinflammation, immune biomarkers, microglia, cytokines, infection, autoimmune processes, the gut–brain–immune relationship and immune-targeted interventions. Basic scientists, immunologists, neuroscientists, neurologists, pharmacologists, pathologists, clinicians, microbiome researchers and students may contribute experimental, translational, clinical or review-based work examining inflammation and immunity in cognitive and neurodegenerative disorders.
