Alzheimer'S Disease Etiology

Alzheimer's disease, a progressive neurological disorder, is primarily characterized by cognitive decline and memory loss. Its etiology remains complex and multifactorial, involving both genetic and environmental factors. The accumulation of beta-amyloid plaques and tau protein tangles in the brain are hallmark pathological features, leading to neuronal damage and impaired communication between brain cells.

Genetic factors such as mutations in genes like APP, PSEN1, and PSEN2 contribute to early-onset Alzheimer's, whereas the apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene is a risk factor for late-onset cases. Environmental factors such as cardiovascular health, education level, and traumatic brain injuries also play roles in disease development.

Research continues to explore the interplay of these factors, aiming to unravel Alzheimer's complex etiology and develop effective treatments or preventive measures for this debilitating condition.
