Brain imaging techniques play a crucial role in understanding Alzheimer's Disease and dementia by providing insights into structural and functional changes in the brain. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) helps visualize brain structures, revealing shrinkage of the hippocampus and cortical thinning, which are indicative of neurodegeneration seen in Alzheimer's patients. Functional MRI (fMRI) highlights changes in brain activity patterns, showing altered connectivity and reduced activity in regions crucial for memory and cognition.

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans track biomarkers like beta-amyloid and tau proteins, identifying their accumulation, which is characteristic of Alzheimer's pathology. Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) is used to assess cerebral blood flow, indicating reduced perfusion in areas affected by dementia.

These imaging techniques not only aid in early diagnosis and monitoring disease progression but also contribute to the development of targeted treatments and interventions aimed at preserving cognitive function in individuals affected by Alzheimer's Disease and dementia.
