Dementia Biomarkers

Dementia biomarkers are crucial indicators used in Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia to diagnose, track progression, and assess response to treatment. These biomarkers include proteins like beta-amyloid and tau in cerebrospinal fluid or through imaging techniques like PET scans. Genetic markers such as the APOE ε4 allele also play a significant role. Biomarkers aid in early detection before symptoms manifest, enabling timely interventions. Research focuses on identifying novel biomarkers to enhance diagnostic accuracy and therapeutic targeting, aiming to improve patient outcomes and facilitate the development of disease-modifying treatments. Integrating biomarker findings with clinical assessments enhances diagnostic precision and supports personalized care approaches in managing Alzheimer’s and related dementias.
