Neuroinflammatory Disease

Neuroinflammatory processes play a crucial role in the progression of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and dementia, contributing significantly to neuronal damage. In AD, the buildup of amyloid-beta plaques and tau tangles triggers immune responses in the brain, leading to chronic inflammation. Activated microglia, the brain's immune cells, release pro-inflammatory molecules, worsening neuronal dysfunction and cell death. This inflammatory cascade disrupts synaptic communication and accelerates cognitive decline by promoting the aggregation of pathological proteins.

Addressing neuroinflammation has become a promising avenue for therapeutic intervention in AD and dementia. Researchers are exploring drugs that can modulate immune responses or reduce inflammatory markers to mitigate excessive inflammation while preserving essential brain functions. Understanding these intricate inflammatory mechanisms is essential for developing effective treatments that could potentially slow or halt the progression of these debilitating neurodegenerative diseases.
